Lounging for life
Known in their day for super stylish, mass-produced pieces, the celebrated mid-century furniture designers Charles and Ray Eames, designed their lounge chair and ottoman as their first luxury item. The Eameses vision was for a chair with "the warm, receptive look of a well-used first baseman's mitt”. How could they know it would be instantly recognisable and widely coveted 60 years later?! Why do we LOVE it? Well let's see.....
First, we must be recognise the Eames lounge chair and ottoman as a celebrated example of industrial design, beautifully blending aesthetic appeal with form and function. Made in 1956 from moulded plywood and leather with aluminium bolts and legs in a production process that is documented the MoMA, this piece pushed the boundaries of furniture design and materials.
Personally speaking - our love for the chair, ottoman set is its gorgeous, better-with-age leather held into its elegant, moulded wood casing. It manages perfectly to exude a dual look of being welcoming and relaxed whilst demonstrating upscale, high design. Place it in any room and it anchors the space and ramps up the design oomph.
We also admire the way the lounger exudes such a timeless appeal that means it can work in almost any setting from a Scandinavian, clean-lined interior to a traditional setting. And it looks damn good in lots of leathers - we can never choose our favourite! We have our Eames style lounger and ottoman in stock in chocolate and antique brown, white and black!
