Statement seating
Following on from our ‘warm minimalism’ newsletter, which describes the updated look that has evolved out of the cool, Scandi-style interior trend with warmth, colour and character - we started looking at some of our iconic, statement-making chairs – a perfect way to add all the above and some, whilst steering an overall pared-down and edited look.
Statement-making pieces were typically ignored in the old Scandi-schemes, in favour of exuding a unified and calm aesthetic. But without making any style statements - any ‘ta da’, you slip into having a predictable look. Just as with your fashion, you need to curate a good couple of statement pieces to up the style stakes. It’s not a matter of whacking in a bold piece: the scale, colour and style of your statement pieces must be balanced so that they stand out with the rest of the room’s furniture and colour scheme playing it’s supporting role.
Mid-century chairs particularly, are ideal statement-making pieces due to their unique timeless style so they assimilate whilst enhancing almost every interior scheme. Many of these chairs boast a design-led, sculpted aesthetic so they introduce soft lines and a relaxed sense of style, much needed in minamilist schemes. Additionally, mid-century chairs claim superior craftsmanship and iconic status - stature in the details - making them the perfect understated statement piece. Plus, we like the look of kicking back in the cosy arms of a mid-century seat that slightly unsubtly tells everyone what a great design guru you are!
